a long time ago one of my closest friends dated someone I had some bad blood with. the song itself has changed again and again but the melodies were always so sweet they stuck.
the idea is from the perspective of this person I didn't get on with, and the hold they have over my friend.
There is also a different version of this song that's a simple love song called 'the captain' but it's deep in a cupboard somewhere.
